On average, a recruiter spends six seconds on each profile when they take a first look.

That’s why, to stand out from other applications, it’s essential that you make sure your first impression is a good one. This notably involves making sure your LinkedIn profile is helping you with this. It can often be underestimated and forgotten about when applying for a job. So, how can you stand out on LinkedIn and catch the attention of a recruiter?

HERE ARE OUR SIX TOP TIPS

FIND THE RIGHT WORDS!

Just like on any other social media site, words matter on LinkedIn. By choosing the right keywords, you’ll work your way up the search result rankings and increase your exposure. You’ll then have more of a chance that the recruitment teams at the company you’re interested in will spot you. To select the right keywords, opt for certain terms used by the company you’re applying for. Here at OVHcloud, what we really like are profiles that stand out through the sense of motivation that they convey.

ADD A PROFESSIONAL HEADSHOT

If you want to publish a photo, we recommend choosing a professional one. The background should be neutral and your body language should be open and dynamic.

USE A SIMPLE EMAIL ADDRESS

Remember to use a professional email address. Avoid any unprofessional email names, like "MissLouise@" or "KevinTheBoss@".

KEEP IT REAL

The “About” section is the first thing that people read when they go onto a LinkedIn profile. That’s why it’s so important not to neglect it. Choose relevant, personalised keywords based on your educational and/or work experience. You should draw attention to what makes you unique, what makes you you.

HIGHLIGHT YOUR EXPERIENCE

Your LinkedIn profile provides the perfect opportunity to showcase all of your experience and add some details. This could cover your studies and/or your previous employment at a company. The recruiter should be able to understand, within a few seconds, what your career/studies journey has looked like so far and what skills you have, so they can get an idea of your potential. For enhanced exposure, post your content at “popular” times, particularly in the morning and late afternoon.

MAINTAIN REGULAR ACTIVITY ON THE PLATFORM

A recruiter wants to know what your interests are. Therefore, on LinkedIn, it’s recommended that you maintain a regular presence, such as posting articles and commenting on others’ content. You can also join groups and take part in discussions. Basically, remain active during your job search, as this will make you more visible. Regularly post about topics you’re passionate about. Stand out by making what makes you different your strength.

PERSONAL DATA PROCESSING

How is applicants’ personal data processed?

When you sign up to careers.ovhcloud.com and apply for a job with us, OVH S.A.S. will process your personal data. This personal data processing is required for the receipt and registration of applications, as well as for managing the recruitment process (namely the selection process, interviews and follow-up) relating to employees’ line management, responding to applications and, if applicable, handling any disputes.

The legal basis for this processing is Article 6(1)(b) of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679: the processing is required for the execution of pre-contractual measures and for the establishment of the contractual relationship between the entities of OVH Group and applicants. In the event of recruitment by an OVH Group entity, the data will consequently be processed for the purposes of employee administrative management and career management.

Identification, career, and cover letter data, as well as data regarding the line management of the applicant, employee or the person who recruited the applicant are sent to Affiliate Companies (both inside and outside the EU), hosting data within the SAP Success Factor solution in the European Union (the Netherlands). Some of this data may be required and, if this is the case, you’ll be informed when it is collected, primarily in the form of an asterisk or an equivalent marking.

Your data is retained for the entire duration of the application process and, with your consent, it is retained for an intermediate period of 13 months from the last point of communication for the purposes of creating a CV bank. Following this, it is then archived until the legal limitation periods expire. However, in the event of hiring, this data is processed for the purpose of sending a formal job offer and retained throughout the contractual relationship between you and the OVH Group entities concerned.

To exercise your rights (access, rectification, erasure, opposition and limitation of processing, and portability) or if you have any questions about the processing of your data within this system, you can contact the Data Protection Officer at the address dpo@ovh.com, attaching proof of identity. You can also file a complaint with the CNIL (French Data Protection Authority).
